Add PatchOps to your own ChatGPT.
Turn on developer mode
In ChatGPT, open Settings → Apps → Advanced settings. Turn on Developer mode.
Create the app
Select Create app. Name it PatchOps. Enter the MCP server URL https://patchops.ai/api/mcp. Leave Authentication set to OAuth.
Scan tools and sign in
Select Scan Tools. ChatGPT opens the PatchOps sign-in page. Sign in or create a free account, then approve access.
Wait for the scan, then create
Wait until the tool scan finishes and the PatchOps tools are listed. Then select Create.
Use it in a chat
Start a new chat. Select PatchOps from the tools menu, or name PatchOps in your request.
On personal plans, OpenAI may limit custom apps to read actions. Full MCP support, including write actions, is available on ChatGPT Business, Enterprise and Edu.
Publish PatchOps for your workspace.
Turn on developer mode for the workspace
Open Workspace settings → Permissions & Roles → Connected Data. Turn on Developer mode / Create custom MCP connectors. Only owners and admins can do this.
Limit who can build apps (Enterprise and Edu)
Use role-based access control in Workspace settings → Permissions & roles. Give developer mode only to the people who test apps.
Create the custom app
Open Workspace settings → Apps → Create. Enter https://patchops.ai/api/mcp and leave Authentication set to OAuth.
Scan tools and sign in
Select Scan Tools. Sign in with a PatchOps account that belongs to your PatchOps organization, and approve access. Wait until the scan lists the tools, then select Create.
Test it as a draft
The app stays a draft until you publish it. Run a few real questions. Check that each answer cites the correct source.
Publish to the workspace
Open Workspace settings → Apps → Drafts. Select PatchOps, then Publish. Choose which roles can use the app.
Configure actions
In the publish dialog, open Configure actions. Choose which actions the app can take, and how to treat actions that are added later.
Our recommendation
Allow all read actions. They only fetch and display data. Require confirmation for write actions, or allow read actions only if your team does not need writes.
PatchOps has its own check. The write tool, patchops_executeAction, is annotated as destructive. PatchOps refuses it unless the assistant sends the planned action with an explicit confirmation. It never retries a write after the provider receives it. This check is set by the assistant, not by a click, so your workspace approval setting is what makes a person approve each write.
What PatchOps can do in ChatGPT.
Search and query
Find the right source among public and licensed oil and gas data, then run an exact query. Examples: Texas RRC wells, permits and production, EIA prices, EPA and SEC records.
Maps and charts
Show wells, leases, pipelines and production on a map, or as a chart, from data that PatchOps already returned.
Actions with confirmation
Write actions, such as sending an email through a connected account, use a separate tool marked as destructive, so that ChatGPT can ask you for confirmation. PatchOps refuses a write unless the assistant sends an approved action plan with an explicit confirmation flag.
Licensed sources and your own systems, such as Outlook or a database, work only after you connect them in PatchOps. ChatGPT can use only the tools and data that your PatchOps account and your organization's connections allow.
Usage allowance.
- Free accounts get 100 free connector calls every month. The allowance resets on the 1st of each month.
- Calls from ChatGPT count toward the same allowance as calls from other AI tools.
- Teams that need more calls, shared connectors or central billing can use an organization plan.
- Licensed vendor sources need your own subscription with that vendor.
Common fixes.
Tools are missing or out of date
ChatGPT keeps a copy of the tool list. Open the PatchOps app in ChatGPT settings, disconnect it, and connect it again.
Sign-in fails or loops
Allow pop-ups for chatgpt.com, sign out of PatchOps in the same browser, and try again. Use the account that has your connectors.
Access denied or session expired
Reconnect the app. A revoked or expired PatchOps sign-in needs a new approval. Refresh tokens expire after 30 days.
A source says it is not connected
Connect that source in the PatchOps dashboard first. Then ask again in ChatGPT.
Usage limit reached
The free allowance resets on the 1st of each month. Choose a plan to continue now.
Write action is blocked
Your workspace may allow read actions only. Ask your ChatGPT admin to review the app's action settings.
